ABOUT

Brian is a musician, composer and songwriter based in Belfast, N.Ireland. As well as being classically-trained in violin, piano, voice and guitar, his roots stem from Irish traditional music - having an extensive background in the genre including within the folk group ‘Blackthorn’, 'Bearnagh’ with the Ulster Orchestra in the Waterfront Hall Belfast, as well as on television appearances on the BBC’s ‘The Castle Sessions’, ‘Burns an’ Mair' and 'Santer'.

 

He holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from Queen’s University Belfast and studied Composition under Professor Piers Hellawell and Dr Simon Mawhinney. He is currently studying for a Masters in Arts Management at Queen’s.

He has acted as Musical Director for 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat' and 'Jesus Christ Superstar', and has composed original music for The Group Theatre, Belfast's 'Rinty'; The New Rose Theatre Company's 'Guests of a Nation'; and The Arts Theatre, Belfast's 'Gregory's Girl'.

Recent film projects include acting in and providing original music for Mark Lawther and Andrew McNeill's 'Whistling Dixie'.

Brian has been a member of Phil Coulter's house band, and currently performs with the New Irish Arts Orchestra.

He has recorded two singles as “Five Leaves Left’ – ‘Messages’ and ‘Christmas is Coming Around' and has recently received Arts Council NI funding for a video to accompany his new song composition ‘Love and Beauty’, sung by international performer Ryan Kelly.
